A little about what I intend to do. This blog will be dedicated to sharing with you, my faithful readers (when I finally get some), my experiences throughout my training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) . For those who are uninformed, BJJ is a martial art that is well known for its various techniques in submission grappling. It is an amazing art of self defense.
Now, I will say that I have never EVER been in a fight in my life. Aside from the fights between siblings, I am completely inexperienced in violent encounters, and God willing, I will always stay that way. At any rate, studies have proven that the majority of all street fights end up on the ground at some point in time. So, it would be a good thing, in an effort to know how to defend myself in case of such an event, that I educate myself in ground fighting.
Some of you know, and some of you don’t that I am a huge fan of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and in particular the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). So I have watched years of UFC events and have followed great fighters known for their BJJ. Royce Gracie, Rickson Gracie, George St Pierre, and others are masters of BJJ and are known as some of the best fighters in the history of MMA. These are my role models in my endevours.
Tomorrow, I start my first class at the American School of Martial Arts. Today, i purchased my gi. A gi, is the uniform of a Jiu Jitsu player. Think the karate kid for a visual. Here I was at home, proudly looking at my new double weave, blue jiu jitsu gi. And then I realized, I have no idea how to wear this thing. I looked like a fool in my bedroom, trying this thing on. But perseverance prevailed, and after struggling for 15 minutes I finally got my gi on and my nice new white belt tied on.
So I work tonight until 2 am, then its off to slumber so I can be fresh for my first class tomorrow at 10 AM. Please stay tuned faithful readers, tell your friends, and maybe we all can share this experience together!
First the Guthrie and now this? Hopefully you’re not traveling an hour in each direction for “falling down” lessons. Seriously though, good luck with this endeavor. I really think this is merely a means to having your way with Fat Barney.
Tit for Tat … how bout that? That’s how I stop-drop-roll. The link below will transport you to my Blop (not a typo).
