With the submission hunt coming up in under two months, it has come to my attention that i really need to kick things in gear. The last couple days of class, I worked pretty hard at killing off mistakes when I see them. I’ve really tried to become more fluid and smooth with my jiu jitsu, and less explosive. I came to the realization that the reason my guard passes don’t succeed at times is because I still am at the stage where I move step by step, and pause in between each step. I’ve been trying to change things up. Trying to become more continuous, with my jiu jitsu.  I have really started to become more calm, and less spastic when I roll now. Although when rolling with Derrick last week, I did power my way out of his mount one time. He mentioned, yeah, that’s not jiu jitsu Dan, use your technique. I battled back feebly with something like, I had only meant to buck up to create some space but he just kept going so I went with it, but I knew he was right.

I have been waking up early the last few days, so I have been spending time trying to get my head in the right place so when I get to class, I’m firing on all cylinders. It seems as of late it takes me a little longer to get in the groove. Partially because I think that since the Rodrigo seminar, I grew complacent since I got striped, and also because I think I trained so hard for 3 months, that I was feeling like I needed a break.  But back to the grind. Jiu Jitsu is my part time job. One that I love. I cannot get better without constant practice so I am rededicating myself to the cause.
